We really can't stress the importance of preproduction enough, especially if you're an artist recording with session players. It's like looking at Google maps before you take a trip somewhere you've never been, or getting your ingredients together before you start a new recipe. Having a plan and an arrangement for each song before you come in to record will save you time, money, and stress.

Preproduction doesn't have to be fancy, and it doesn't have to be expensive. It can be you in your living room recording on your phone. But we'd suggest it's something every artist does before they go into the studio.
