CCMA Lead Up: Week Five
TWO WEEKS TO GO
In two weeks, we will be hopping onto a plane and heading to the 2017 Canadian Country Music Awards in Saskatoon, SK. For the next few weeks, we're going to share one of the Canadian country artists we've had the pleasure of working with this year.
The George Canyon session was definitely a fun one.
George's producer, Jeff Johnson, came in on the Sunday before the session with the songs. He sat with Josh in our control room, and they went through each song discussing ideas and sounds. On Monday the band arrived, and they recorded.
The Canyon session was the first time we've ever had that many players live off the floor. We had two electric guitars (Jay Buettner, Matty McKay), one acoustic guitar (Aaron Young), drums (Adam Dowling), keys (Mike Little), bass (first day Justin Kudding, second and third day Chris Byrne), and specialty strings (Denis Dufrense). With George singing scratch vocals in the control room, we ended up having eight people recording at the same time. Over three days, George and his crew recorded 11 songs.
George Canyon has had an incredible career spanning over 13 years. He has won two Junos (one nomination), seven CCMAs (with many, many more nominations), and several other awards. He is also the offical anthem singer for the Calgary Flames. George recently announced auditions for a backup anthem singer, as he has plans to head out and tour his new album in the upcoming year.
We are so looking forward to everyone hearing with George and his phenominal team got up to in the studio!
